Beach Rules:
- The most important rule is: NO GLASS ON THE BEACH. If you take glass bear bottles down to the beach - they will get confiscated. They don't care what - you drink - just NO GLASS!
- If you see a sea turtle, don't mess with it.
- No bonfires on the beach.
- If you and your kids dig a hole in the beach, please fill it back in. Turtles (and people) walk the beach and night and a hole can create a real problem.
Lifeguards:
There are no lifeguards in front of our Spanish Main or Sandcastle condo complex. There are no lifeguards in front of Spanish Main
Rip-Tides (SERIOUS STUFF!! PLEASE READ)
- Always swim where other people are swimming - never swim alone!
- If you are not a strong swimmer, do not swim when the waves are large or the conditions appear rough.-
- Be aware of ocean currents and rip tides - if you are caught in a rip tide, swim parallel to the beach (go with the current) - do not try to swim against the current! The current generally flows parallel with the beach.
- If you need help, face the shore and wave your arms - usually someone is nearby with a surfboard.
Note: We have seen people get in trouble - when in the ocean - when they get in over their heads... They start bouncing up and down in the waves (which is quite fun). However, if they are not mindful they can continue to move (perhaps in a small rip-tide) into deeper and deeper water - until they are over their heads. If not strong swimmers - this can pose a problem! Be mindful! Also, One of our recent guests got in trouble this way - and had to get resewed. It was very touch and go! Do not underestimate the ocean.
